Journey Details: Route & Itinerary

Day 1: Haridwar to Barkot (Yamunotri Base)

  • Distance: 205 km | Duration: 7–8 hours
  • Start the journey from Haridwar and head to Barkot, the base for Yamunotri.
  • En Route Visits:
    • Rishikesh: Visit Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula, iconic suspension bridges across the Ganges River.
    • Sivananda Ashram: Take a brief stop at this peaceful ashram dedicated to Swami Sivananda.
    • Mussoorie: Stop to visit Kempty Falls, a stunning waterfall, and enjoy the cool air and mountain vistas.
    • Yamuna Bridge: Pass by this scenic spot where the Yamuna River flows peacefully.
  • Evening: Arrive at Barkot and relax overnight.

Day 2: Barkot – Janki Chatti – Yamunotri – Return to Barkot

  • Distance: 46 km drive + 6 km trek (one way)
  • Start the trek from Janki Chatti to Yamunotri Temple (6 km trek).
  • At Yamunotri:
    • Yamunotri Temple: Dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, the temple is one of the Char Dham sites.
    • Surya Kund: Take a holy dip in the thermal waters and cook prasad here.
    • Divya Shila: A sacred rock near the temple that holds great religious significance.
  • Return to Janki Chatti and drive back to Barkot.

Gangotri

Day 3: Barkot to Uttarkashi (Gangotri Base)

    • Kashi Vishwanath Temple (Uttarkashi): Visit the famous temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
    • Nehru Institute of Mountaineering: If time permits, you can visit the Nehru Institute to learn more about mountaineering and the Himalayan ranges.
    • Bhagirathi River: Enjoy the picturesque views of the river.
  • Evening: Arrive at Uttarkashi and relax overnight.

Day 4: Uttarkashi to Gangotri – Return to Uttarkashi

  • Distance: 100 km one way
  • Visit Gangotri, the origin of River Ganga.
  • At Gangotri:
    • Gangotri Temple: Perform darshan and receive the blessings of Goddess Ganga.
    • Bhagirathi Shila: The rock on which King Bhagirath is believed to have meditated to bring Ganga to the earth.

    • Submerged Shivalinga: An ancient Shivalinga submerged in the river, visible only during certain seasons.
  • Evening: Return to Uttarkashi for an overnight stay.

Day 5: Uttarkashi to Guptkashi (Kedarnath Base)

  • Distance: 200 km | Duration: 8–9 hours
  • Travel to Guptkashi, situated in the Mandakini Valley.
  • En Route Visits:
    • Chopta: A beautiful meadow known for its stunning views of the Himalayas.
    • Triyuginarayan Temple: A temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and believed to be the wedding site of Lord Shiva and Parvati.
    • Kund: A small town known for its religious significance.

Kedarnath

Day 6: Guptkashi to Kedarnath (Helicopter/Trek)

  • Distance: 30 km drive to Sonprayag + 18 km trek (one way)
  • Drive to Sonprayag and then Gaurikund (starting point for the Kedarnath trek).
  • At Kedarnath:
    • Kedarnath Temple: This ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and stands majestically against the backdrop of snow-capped peaks.
    • Tapt Kund: A hot spring near the temple where pilgrims can take a rejuvenating bath.
    • Bhairav Temple: Situated at the top of a hill overlooking Kedarnath, this temple is dedicated to Bhairav, a form of Lord Shiva.

Day 7: Kedarnath to Guptkashi

  • Start early and drive to Badrinath, the last of the Char Dham shrines.

    • Joshimath: Visit Narsingh Temple and Adi Shankaracharya‘s seat.
    • Vishnuprayag: The confluence of the Dhauli Ganga and Alaknanda River, where you can stop for a short visit.
  • At Badrinath:
    • Badrinath Temple: Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this temple is a major spiritual site.
    • Tapt Kund: A sacred hot spring where devotees take a dip before entering the temple.
    • Mana Village: The last village before the Tibet border, known for its scenic views and mystical significance.
  • Overnight: Stay at Badrinath.
RUDRA PRAYAG

Day 9: Badrinath – Rudraprayag

  • Distance: 160 km | Duration: 6–7 hours
  • Morning darshan at the Badrinath Temple and visit Bhim Pul and Vyas Gufa.
  • En Route Visits:
    • Devprayag: The confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi Rivers which forms the Ganga.
    • Rudraprayag: Visit Rudranath Temple.

Day 10: Rudraprayag to Haridwar

  • Distance: 160 km | Duration: 6–7 hours

  • Arrive back in Haridwar in the evening, concluding your Char Dham Yatra.

Yatra Registration Process

To ensure a smooth pilgrimage, the registration process for Kedarnath & Badrinath Do Dham Yatra is mandatory. Here’s how you can register:

  1. Online Registration: Visit the official Uttarakhand government tourism website (https://registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in) and complete the registration process.
  2. Required Documents: Provide a valid ID proof (Aadhaar card, Passport, or Voter ID) and passport-size photographs.
  3. Medical Certificate: If trekking to Kedarnath, a medical certificate from an authorized doctor is required.
  4. E-Pass Issuance: After successful registration, an e-pass is generated, which you must carry during the yatra.
  5. Offline Registration: Pilgrims can also register at registration counters located in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Sonprayag, and Joshimath.
  6. COVID-19 Guidelines: Pilgrims should check for any updated travel and health regulations before planning their trip.
